GS-0404-07 Duties:
Oversees all pesticide related activities including adherence to law, rule, and policy, administering the park's Pesticide Use Proposals, tracking and inventorying pesticide use, and disposing of excess or waste pesticides. Assists professional staff in planning field research and resource monitoring programs for evaluating rare, threatened and endangered species. Schedules, coordinates and carries out a wide variety of field activities related to the control of non-native and invasive plant species and enhancement of native plant populations. Such activities may include inventory and assessment, habitat restoration and threat mitigation and application of herbicides. Makes field observations of plant conditions, evaluates conditions/problems and provides summary reports and recommendations to professional staff for use in planning, protection and mitigation activities. Participates in revegetation activities such as site preparation, transplanting, seeding, and applying mulch or erosion mats. Develops and uses databases to enter, organize, and perform preliminary analysis of collected field data and use standards statistical methods in the preparation of reports; enters and retrieves data from a Geographic Information System (GIS) and other information management systems; uses a variety of computer software programs to analyze data, develop graphs, charts and illustrations for reports and technical publications. Evaluates field activity procedures, schedules and techniques, recommending modifications as necessary to accomplish project objectives and ensure compliance with safety procedures. Provides logistic support and area orientation for contract or cooperating scientists; provides technical information to cooperators regrading past and ongoing field activities in their specialty area; coordinates field activities in cooperative programs. Provides work direction and guidance to lower graded technicians, volunteers and/or YCC enrollees in gathering field data, including proper and safe handling of equipment and tools and operation of motorized vehicles. Provides review and comments on NEPA documents including developing text for resource sections of Environmental Assessments and Environmental Impact Analyses. Assists in preparing draft news releases concerning biological resource issues and in providing information to individuals, local organizations, and schools. Adheres to established control/quality assurance protocols and safety procedures. Credit will be given for all appropriate qualifying experience. To qualify for this position at the GS-07 grade level, you must possess the following minimum qualifications by close of the announcement:
Experience:
One full year of specialized experience equivalent to the GS-06 level in the federal service. Specialized experience demonstrates the knowledge, skills, and abilities to perform successfully the duties of a Biological Science Technician (Plants). My specialized experience includes coordinating and implementing projects related to invasive plant management; ensuring compliance with law, rule, and policy related with pesticide use; supervising seasonal staff and volunteers in plant management activities; operating and maintaining field machinery used for plant management; and providing technical support for invasive plant management issues to the management team. -OR- EDUCATION:
Successful completion of at least one year of graduate level education in an accredited educational institution concentrated in a field that is directly related to the work of this position, such as in biological sciences, agriculture, natural resource management, chemistry, ecology or related disciplines appropriate to this position. (You must include transcripts.) -OR- Successful completion of a combination of education and experience as described above. To combine education and experience, first take the percentage of completed required education. Then take the number of months of full time experience and divide by 12 months. The check can be for multiple reasons such as signing bonus, supplies, etc. The victim will be instructed to deposit the check and use the money for any of these reasons and then instructed to send the remaining funds to the fraudster. The check will bounce and the victim is left responsible.
