TYPE OF APPOINTMENT: These positions are seasonal temporary positions, with full-time work schedule not to exceed (NTE) 1039 hours in a service year. Under this type of appointment, selectee(s) may be eligible for rehire in future seasons. Aniticipated Entrance on Duty date is: June 2014. This includes mowing, identifying plant to be removed or cared for, removing invasive and unwanted plants (without herbicides), and caring for native plants and shrubs located in the planted landscape. Tasks will include planting seeds and plant plugs into designated areas by the Superintendent and Chief of Natural Resources. Maintaining interior and exterior structures such as cleaning windows, painting, inspecting green roof water system, etc. and will also perform janitorial/custodial duties for buildings in the absence of the custodial worker and as back-up support.
AREA INFORMATION : Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve is located two miles north of Strong City, Kansas, and approximately 20 miles west of an area of major groceries, medical and dental services located in Emporia, KS. Climate is considered moderate, with average precipitation of over 30, summer high temperatures are 80-100 degrees, winter low temperatures of 10-20 degrees. The National Park Service and The Nature Conservancy co-manage Tallgrass Prairie National Preserve's 10,894 acres.

REQUIREMENTS :
